TREATING A BUG BITE NATURALLY AND EFFECTIVELY
Say Goodbye to Those Itchy Bites
Now that summer’s officially here and the weather’s warming up, we all love to hang out outside. The only problem is that mosquitoes apparently feel the same way and see us as their all-you-can-eat buffet! On our end, we’re left with itchy bites and red welts. But worry not, we have some handy solutions to ease those dreadful bites.
Green Tea
Store a used tea bag in a little plastic bag in your refrigerator. When getting a bug bite apply it as a compress! The tea’s natural compounds will combat inflammation, while the coolness will provide some soothing relief.
Ice
Grab an ice pack and apply it to the bite for around 15 to 20 minutes each hour for the initial six hours. Just be sure to place a cloth in between your skin and the ice pack to keep your kin happy! Between ice, a cool, wet cloth can feel nice on the skin.
Oatmeal
If you’ve had a few nibbles, soothing oatmeal soak may be just what you need! Grind a cup of oats to a fine powder and add to warm running bath water. Soak for about 15 to 20 minutes to retain moisture and relieve the itchiness.
Toothpaste
You see, toothpaste can be your buddy as well! This is because many toothpastes contain menthol, which is beneficial for reducing pain and swelling, as well as providing a pleasant cooling feeling on the skin.
Aloe Vera
If you have the aloe vera plant at home, you are in luck! Simply snap off a leaf and rub the juicy pulp directly onto the itchy area for instant relief.
Baking Soda
Make a paste of baking soda and water (2:1 ratio) and apply over the bite. It can also help neutralize the itch and relieve discomfort. Just be sure to clean the area beforehand!
Rubbing Alcohol
Whatever kind of bug bite you have, cleaning it with rubbing alcohol is usually a good idea. It cools the skin and relieves the pain, also helps prevent infection.
Elevation
If you’re out and about without any of those remedies on hand, just elevating the bitten area can minimize swelling and offer a little relief from discomfort.
So the next time those annoying mosquitoes come to come out to play, you’ll have these friendly solutions at your fingertips! Enjoy your summer.
